Cognitive Dissonance – 1. A Condition in which a person espouses one thing, yet acts differently than what they espoused. 2. The Bush Administration.
Drs. Leon Festinger and James Carlsmith proved the theory of cognitive dissonance in an experiment in 1959. Part of that experiment concluded that human beings, when asked to lie without being given sufficient justification, would convince themselves that the lie they are asked to tell is the truth. Dissonance Rising
President Smirky has once again come onto the nations television screens for his annual lie and fear-mongering fest. He started off with a visibly forced and disingenuous nod to Coretta Scott King (lest we forget the Government spied on her and her husband), then immediately went into a hypocritical sideways slam against anyone who questions his administration and its polices…
“In a system of two parties, two chambers, and two elected branches, there will always be differences and debate. But even tough debates can be conducted in a civil tone, and our differences cannot be allowed to harden into anger. To confront the great issues before us, we must act in a spirit of goodwill and respect for one another.”
Fact 1 – The Vice President of the United States told a sitting US Senator to “Go F*** Yourself!”
Fact 2 – Smirky’s puppet-master, Slinky Rove, has been giving speeches practically blaming “Liberals” for the existence of Al Queda, as if we smote the ground and up sprang Osama bin Laden riding in on a horse provided by Sadaam Hussein. Of course, we all know that both bin Laden and Hussein were created and supported in the 1980s by CHENEY, RUMSFELD, WOLFOWITZ and all those other familiar folk who brought you this planned chaos.
Fact 3 – The unrelenting slandering of any, and I mean Democrat, Republican, Independent or Undeclared person who dare tell the truth about this Fascist cabal began long before he was elected and has continued ad nausea.
The New Buzz Word – Isolationism
He used or inferred this at least a dozen times throughout this speech.
Fact – The only isolationist throughout the twentieth and into the twenty-first centuries have been (say it with me) CONSERVATIVES!
And of course he used his favorite Joe McCarthy tactic by bringing up terrorism and 9/11 no fewer than 15 times. And what are we doing to fight terrorism?
“We're on the offensive in Iraq, with a clear plan for victory. First, we're helping Iraqis build an inclusive government, so that old resentments will be eased and the insurgency will be marginalized.
Second, we're continuing reconstruction efforts, and helping the Iraqi government to fight corruption and build a modern economy; so all Iraqis can experience the benefits of freedom. And, third, we're striking terrorist targets while we train Iraqi forces that are increasingly capable of defeating the enemy. Iraqis are showing their courage every day, and we are proud to be their allies in the cause of freedom.
In less than three years, the nation has gone from dictatorship to liberation, to sovereignty, to a constitution, to national elections.”
Fact 1 – The only clear plan they have is for planned chaos, which in turn allows this administration’s chosen few to loot ours and the Iraqi Nation of every spare dollar and dinar they can get their hands on. To date at least 10 BILLION US DOLLARS are missing and unaccounted for with no, nada, zip oversight from the Republican Congress.
Fact 2 – The last Iraqi election has made it clear who will be in charge of Iraq…Iran. The majority of people elected are Muslim extremists from the South who have been allied with Iran for decades. In other words, through a Democratic process, we have created another extremist Muslim State in the Middle East.
“Our nation is grateful to the fallen, who live in the memory of our country. We're grateful to all who volunteer to wear our nation's uniform -- and as we honor our brave troops, let us never forget the sacrifices of America's military families.”
Fact 1 – This President and the Lackey Republican Congress has cut VA benefits, including hospitalization and mental health services to the bone and beyond.
Fact 2 – They cut military housing allowances for the families of our soldiers. In fact the families of our National Guard troops, which make up more than a third (and closer to half) of the troops in Iraq receive NOTHING!
Fact 3 – They have failed to provide the necessary military hardware and equipment to protect our troops despite repeated calls for them from the soldiers in the field.
Fact 4 – They have contracted out at enormous, un-audited costs many military functions, causing chaos and death as the contracted companies refuse to coordinate with the military, while charging the United States $10 for a hamburger, not to mention KNOWINGLY serving our soldiers tainted water.
Meanwhile, Back In The U.S. of A.
Domestic Spying and other treasonous acts…
“Previous Presidents have used the same constitutional authority I have, and federal courts have approved the use of that authority.”
Fact 1 – In April of 2004, long after the use of warrant less wiretaps was put in place this President said in a speech that wiretaps required a court order and we are upholding the Constitution.
Fact 2 – The “Previous Presidents” Smirky refers to were all President BEFORE, WAY BEFORE the courts ruled that warrant less wiretaps were illegal and before Congress enacted the FISA laws. Since then NO President has been known to use it, including Carter and Clinton contrary to Bill O’Reilly and the rest the Fox crowd’s propaganda.
Fact 3 – His refusal to use the FISA courts and recent disclosures of spying on such terrorist organizations as the Quakers can easily lead on to conclude that Smirky is and has been using this tool for his own political purposes ala Nixon.
“Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos.”
Fac…wait a minute…Human-Animal Hybrids? Where the hell did that come from? Oh, he must be talking about the conservatives who follow him like sheep people, daring not to stray should he sick his dog people, Cheney and Rove on them…either that or he was watching The Island of Dr. Moreau and thought it was a documentary.
Dissonance Overload
So, after 5,400 words of lies, hypocrisy, obfuscation, and downright oxymoronic claptrap, what does it all mean?
If you are rich, healthy, and not in the military, the state of your Union is pretty good! For the rest of us, well, can you say Police State?
